So we pack up the car and head up to Nokomai for the long Easter break. I can honestly say I have had better weekends. I was unwell all weekend and all I did was read!! I took 2 books up and had them finished the first day. I read the books the kids took up – Geronimo Stilton is really cool and the Star Wars comics got me interested in Star Wars all over again. Then I read a couple of dozen National Geographics (thank you Danny for leaving that big pile of NGs at the crib). I even read a romance novel that was written in the early 1950’s! I read my Raising Boys workbook and I started my Urban Lily Its My Life Journal – I have a gorgeous green one. I have not read so much in so long – I’m all read out!! And thanks to the National Geographics I am now an absolute fountain of information.
The children on the other hand had a blast. Leo took up his 2 man tent and taught the kids how to put it up. Josef was so proud of the fact he put the stretchers together after I couldnt bend the leg in. He went beet red at one stage but he has so much determination to succeed and not let little things stop him. The kids took great delight in putting that tent up and then had the task of deciding who was going to sleep in the tent with Leo. They both had previously decided they didn’t have the courage to sleep outside alone. So the first night Josef and his Dad camped out. For Leo it was heaven becuase the clouds opened and it bucketed down. Leo sleeps like a baby with the sound of rain on the tent. The second night to our surprise the two kids decided they wanted to try sleeping out together – no grownups. And they did! I admit I made Leo go check on them a few times during the night, but the kids loved their adventure.
And of course the Easter Bunny found his merry way to Nokomai and left a pile of eggs scattered around the yard. Josef wasnt terribly impressed with the chocolate bunny we think may have gotten run over or sat on – it was rather flat! Note to Mr Bunny – in future try not to pack eggs in same case as a shaving kit – shaving kits are heavy.
I had a little fun playing with the settings on my camera and taking a few random shots of interest. We were thrilled when Opa got up to play kick with Josef. Opa’s health has been declining and he just doesn’t have the get up and go he used to have. I love the mushroom, it has totally convinced Jessica fairies live at Nokomai.

Sorry to hear that you weren’t well over the weekend, Julie. That’s not good!
I hope you’re feeling better now.
The tent looks like a LOT of fun for the kids … and how brave they are to sleep out there alone!
LOL at the squashed bunny … had a giggle at that.

Would have been nice to get away over the weekend but sorry that you weren’t feeling very well. Had to laugh over all the reading though.
Good on the kids for sleeping in the tent by themselves. What fun.

Well it’s not so good that you weren’t feeling too flash my friend. Hope that with a little R&R, even if you are all ‘read out’, that you are now feeling heaps better and ready to get the working week underway.
Love the pics and I had a wee laugh [out loud I might add just quietly] reading about the kids not wanting to sleep out … but hey they did … how cool … bet you would have loved to have been a wee fly on the wall … lol.

Sounds like a lovely weekend – sorry you weren’t feeling well but yay you got to read so much and rest and relax. Camping out looks like fun – funny how you made Leo get up and check on them! We found fairy mushrooms like that on our walk yesterday, couldn’t get any pics of the fairies though … I wonder if photoshop would help …

Hard work being away when your not a hundred percent, hope your on the mend now Julie. Hey at least there was some reading material, otherwise you might now know how many holes are in the ceiling tiles, or how many times the pattern repeats on the curtains ….LOL!!

What an incredible mushroom!
Opa brings a tear to my eye. So sweet, and an awesome memory for your children (photo of Opa playing ball).
