For years I have visited the Tuatara enclosure at the museum and only on very rare occasions have I seen Henry or Mildred or any of the resident Tuatara move. Last week 9 of Mildreds eggs hatched the cutest little babies popped out – and oh my gosh – they can move so fast! The babies are in a special tank so people can see them, which was really cool because otherwise you can stand at the glass for ages trying to figure out if that log is alive or what?
Jess decided we were going to Queens Park this morning for a wander, we spent nearly 3 hours walking around the gardens, the aviary, the playground and then on to the museum. Leo and I were having fun conversations about the gardens and how it would be sooo nice to have a huge home with gardens like that – along with the appropriate staff of course
And that set Jess and I off on the “wouldnt it have been so neat to wear the big hoop dresses” .
Leo got into a conversation with a galah and it was quite comical to watch. But I loved the kea, it was manic in its hopping around cheekily bouncing up to us then taking off.
Jess found a tree with with a wee ledge and I liked the way it looks with her perched up there on this massive pine!
The weather has completely given up down south, now I’m not a heat lover but this continious rain and cold cold snap is a bit of a joke! We havent done much of what we planned to do this summer, I can only hope we get a late warm spell or my house wont be painted this year either lol! I had to laugh at this cartoon in the Times by the very talented chicane.

I don’t think I’ve ever been to the Southland Museum … must try that next time I’m down. I have, however, seen a ‘typical’ southland summers day … just like in that cartoon!

LOL on the cartoon…great photos, and I’m guessing the kea probably likes the cooler weather, wonder what the galah thinks of it, being an aussie native once upon a time. Someone should teach him to say ‘bring back the sun!”

I agree … it’s the pits atm weather-wise … but we just have to make the most of it … I can scrap it out … lol.

Fabulous photos, Julie! I’ve never been to Southland Museum (though have visited Invercargill more than once). It’s now on the list of places we need to go.
